Looking for laptops...
This blog is a special appeal for second hand laptops (and other computer equipment) to send to Kharkiv. There are very many people around the world who are sending computer equipment to Ukraine, particularly in the UK. But every single piece of help is valuable.
From Kharkiv, eastwards, most children are unable to attend school. Many schools have been destroyed and/or it is simply too dangerous for children to go to school, due to the risk of bombing and shelling. There are some underground schools, e.g. classes for a limited number of young children in the Metro (underground) in Kharkiv, but they are operating in small spaces. So laptops are vital for children to be able to continue their education, whether in underground schools or, as is more usual, online at home.
The photos below show laptops that have been distributed to children from low-income families in Kharkiv by the charity, Adults for Children. (Faces are disguised for anonymity as permission to publicise these photos has not been sought.) Volunteers are able to check and reconfigure the laptops. This may also be done, en route, by contacts in Lviv.
We also send laptops to medical institutions and to the military, mostly in Kharkiv region, where they are also hugely appreciated. (Soldiers' faces are always disguised, for obvious reasons.)
Now to specifics: we are looking for laptops, above all, as well as desktop computers and external devices, like screens. Apple Intel Macs are OK. Also useful are routers and switches, of all sizes and shapes. Ideally, equipment should be in working order and, preferrably, under 5 years old. A missing memory, hard drive or power supply are not problematic as these things can be fixed.
Transport is not an object and can be arranged from anywhere in the world, including UK, Europe, Canada and USA.
Thank you for your support.
I have a laptop. How do I organise collection/sending?
ReplyDeleteHi, I know a few Steves. I'm not sure who Steve Ps is, sorry. If you let me know, I'll get in touch. Thanks.
DeleteHi we haven't met, I saw a link on the Lviv volunteer WhatsApp. I've got a relatively old Windows 10 laptop, it probably won't be good enough for army use but I think it will be fine for school kids. I will wipe and reinstall it. I'm based in NE England. Happy to pay for postage. You can contact me on WA if you want, 0 seven 951 636 eight 55.
DeleteThanks. I'll ask my volunteer colleague, Jos, to contact you drectly.
